The Perfect Summer Night in Pittsburgh

We started our 2nd year of our family MLB tour with a perfect night in Pittsburgh.  We didn’t know at the time that it would be perfect, but it was. Aren’t those the best nights?  Here’s what we did when we stumbled onto superb summer Pittsburgh night in June 2019.

Wander around Downtown Pittsburgh

First, we  checked out the kid friendly splash pads at The Plaza at PPG Place.  The industrial building makes for a stunning backdrop to the splash pads.  This would be a perfect place to let the kids splash and play if you have some spare clothes or bathing suits.

A block up the street is Market Square. The kids had a great time playing with the oversized checkers and connect 4 games, while B picked up our Primanti Brothers sandwiches for dinner to go.

Have a Sunset Dinner at Point State Park

A short walk from Market Square, and you will find yourself at Point State Park.  Find your way toward the fountain, and you will have a perfect seat for a stunning sunset over the point where  three rivers converge.

Believe the hype about the Primanti Brothers sandwiches because they are the best sandwiches we have ever had.  I actually dream about those darn sandwiches sometimes. Having this iconic Pittsburgh dinner with a spectacular Three Rivers sunset was unforgettable.

Take the Duquesne Incline (with Bonus Zambelli Fireworks)

The night we arrived in Pittsburgh was the Pittsburgh Pirates Firework Night.  You can check the Pittsburgh Pirates website for the dates once the season schedule is out.

One of the best views for the fireworks is historic Duquesne Incline.  Once you reach the top, head to the observation deck and prepare to be amazed!

TIP: The only way to get to the Duquesne Incline from Point State Park is to drive or Uber.  There is no walkway to this attraction.

We stumbled upon the perfect Pittsburgh night, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start our 2nd year of our MLB tour.  For this unexpected gift of a night with my family, Pittsburgh is one of our favorite cities and will always have a special place in our hearts.
